I am not sure about the rest of you…but I am not the greatest at anatomy!  So learning about my colon was quite interesting! First off…this is what it looks like…

So my mass (mass in my ass mass in my ass) was found in my Sigmoid Colon.  Its kinda like where we live…the road we live on goes east and west…but takes a turn to go north and south for a very short period…and that is where we live.  That is ALSO where my MASS lived!  I was very lucky for a few reasons.  First…my mass didn’t grow into my rectum.  Rectal cancer is a lot more invasive and intense to treat and also has more long term side effects.  I was also lucky for my mass to be there and not higher up in the Transverse colon….or Right ascending colon.  You see when your waste moves from your small intestine to your large intestine (colon) it is still liquid.  If my mass would have been there I probably would not have felt any pain…and the blood from the mass would have been absorbed.  There are always blessings!

I was also lucky to have a fabulous surgeon that was able to remove my mass laparoscopicly. So I have 4 very small scar after removing 13″ of my colon (no worries…we have like 5ft!).  Here is what the resection looks like.

Interesting stuff huh!  The surgery was much harder than I had bargained for…but it could have been so much worse!  I was thankful for the abs I had developed the months prior to getting sick! 🙂

Ok…enough anatomy! 🙂
