Frequently Asked Questions….

When do I bring my newborn in for a session?

It is best to bring your newborn in between day 8 to day 14.  Babies older than two weeks of age are alert longer and do not fall into that deep, deep sleep.  Babies under the age of 2 weeks are also still very naturally curled up, so the posing is comfortable and familar to them.  Colic may become evident as well as baby acne after the 2 week mark.

Where does the newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions are photographed in my natural light studio.  Because my focus is on newborn photography the studio is set up for the comfort of baby.  For newborn sessions the studio is kept very warm with a womb mimicing sound machine.  I also have a great area for the parents to relax, watch TV, use the internet, maybe even nap as the session takes place.

Where do “other” sessions take place?

Great question.  Because we are in Kansas location shooting is always a gamble.  However, I truly enjoy shooting outdoors and love finding new locations.  Often times for sitting sessions and one year sessions we will do a combo of the studio and locations out and around the studio.  For family and bigger children we also often visit the farm, local parks, and other unique locations that make a great backdrop for your style.

When are the best times to photograph baby?

I recommend photographing babies first year, newborn, sitting (6-8 months), and One Year.  I like babies to be sitting up well for their “sitting” session.  I ask that you contact me when they start sitting and we schedule for about a month after that so we know she is sitting really well and won’t topple over.

Do you provide the props?

Yes.  I have a bit of a hoarding problem..he he he!  I have lots of props in the studio and at the farm to use for sessions.  However if you have something that has meaning to you lets talk about how we can incorporate it into your session.

What Equipment do you use?

I like to keep things simple.  I work with kids mostly so they don’t have time for me to fuss with a bunch of equipment.  I shoot with Canon.  It is what I started with and what I know.  I kinda look at Canon and Nikon like Chevy and Ford…pretty much the same its just your preference.
